Item 8.01. Other Events.

On June 28, 2017, Global Blood Therapeutics, Inc. issued a press release announcing that its GBT440 therapy for the treatment of sickle cell disease (SCD) has been granted access by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to the EMA’s Priority Medicines (PRIME) program  (the “Press Release”).  A copy of the Press Release is filed herewith as Exhibit 99.1 and is incorporated herein by reference.
