11. Related-Party Transactions

The Company participates in and has an equity method investment in a purchasing alliance that was formed to obtain better pricing, to expand product options, to reduce internal costs, and to achieve greater inventory turnover. The Company’s investment in the purchasing alliance was $5.3 million as of September 28, 2019 and $4.6 million as of June 29, 2019. For the three-month periods ended September 28, 2019 and September 29, 2018, the Company recorded purchases of $254.2 million and $226.9 million, respectively, through the purchasing alliance.
