Stock-Based Compensation
ring the three months ended March 31, 2016, the Company recognized $1.2 million, in stock-based compensation expense which was allocated to cost of goods sold, selling, general and administrative expenses, and research and development expenses. At March 31, 2016, there was $4.9 million of unrecognized compensation cost relating to outstanding unvested equity instruments expected to be recognized over the weighted average period of 2.4 years.

Pursuant to the separations of the Company's Chief Executive Officer and President as described in Note 11, the Company has recorded a net charge of $0.6 million for the modification and vesting of the restricted stock awards less compensation previously recognized on forfeited options.
