Organization, Consolidation and Presentation of Financial Statements [Abstract]
Basis of Accounting
The consolidated financial statements have been prepared in U.S. dollars and in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the U.S. ("GAAP").
Use of Estimates
The preparation of the consolidated financial statements in conformity with GAAP requires management to make estimates and assumptions that affect the reported amount of assets and liabilities, disclosure of contingent assets and liabilities and the reported amounts of revenues and expenses. Actual results may differ from those estimates.
Consolidation
The consolidated financial statements include the accounts of the Company, its wholly-owned subsidiaries and entities in which they own or control more than 50% of the voting shares, or have the ability to control through similar rights. All intercompany balances and transactions have been eliminated in consolidation and all normal recurring adjustments necessary for a fair presentation have been included in the results reported.
Fiscal Period
Fiscal Year
The Company historically reported its results based on a "52-53 week" year ending on the last Friday of September. On May 17, 2016, the Board of Directors of the Company approved a change in the Company’s fiscal year end to the last Friday in December from the last Friday in September. The change in fiscal year became effective for the Company’s 2017 fiscal year, which began on December 31, 2016 and ended on December 29, 2017. As a result of the change in fiscal year end, the Company filed a Transition Report on Form 10-Q on February 7, 2017 covering the period from October 1, 2016 through December 30, 2016 ("the three months ended December 30, 2016") with the comparable period from September 26, 2015 through December 25, 2015. Fiscal 2016 covers the period from September 26, 2015 through September 30, 2016 and fiscal 2015 covers the period from September 27, 2014 through September 25, 2015.
