Level 2 instruments consist of foreign exchange-traded corporate bonds and interest rate swaps. Foreign exchange-traded corporate bonds are available-for-sale securities valued at their current quoted prices. These securities mature between 2027 and 2033. The interest rate swaps fair values are determined using the market standard methodology of discounting the future expected net cash receipts or payments that would occur if variable interest rates rise above or fall below the fixed rates of the swaps. The variable interest rates used in the calculations of projected receipts on the swaps are based on an expectation of future interest rates derived from observable market interest rate curves and volatilities.
Unrealized gains and losses on available-for-sale debt securities are included in other comprehensive income. There were no significant realized or unrealized gains or losses on any of our securities for any of the periods presented.
During the second quarter of 2020, we paid the level 3 contingent consideration obligation that was included in other current liabilities on our balance sheet at December 31, 2019. The final contingent consideration obligation amount paid was $7.5 million.
