Investment in Affiliates

Investment in Affiliates. At June 30, 2015, investments in affiliates consisted principally of equity investments in limited liability companies. The Company has the ability to exercise significant influence over the operating and financial policies of these investments and, accordingly, accounts for its investments using the equity method of accounting. The Company’s operating results include its share of net earnings from its equity method investments. For the six months ended June 30, 2015, the financial results reported by a significant joint venture were $243.0 million for operating revenue and $32.3 million for operating income, income from continuing operations, and net income.
