NOTE G—INVENTORIES

At December 31, 2019 and December 31, 2018, inventories (in thousands) consisted of the following:

The decrease in inventories is primarily attributable to the amortization of inventory fair value step-up from purchase accounting as well as from write-offs of obsolete inventory, write-downs of inventory to net realizable value and impairments of unused inventory at frac sand plants we idled.
