Recently Issued Accounting Standards and Disclosures

In February 2016, the FASB issued ASU 2016-02, Leases (Topic 842) ("ASU 2016-02"), which superseded existing guidance on accounting for leases in Topic 840, Leases. ASU 2016-02 generally requires an entity to recognize both assets and liabilities arising from financing and operating leases, along with additional qualitative and quantitative disclosures. The Company adopted ASU 2016-02 effective January 1, 2019 using the modified retrospective transition method, utilizing a cumulative-effect adjustment, without restating prior period comparative financial statements. The Company elected the package of practical expedients upon transition that retained the lease
classification and initial directs costs for any leases that existed prior to adoption of the standard. Adoption of the new standard resulted in the recording of additional right-of-use ("ROU") assets and lease liabilities of approximately $75.2 million and $90.8 million, respectively, as of January 1, 2019. The adoption had no impact on prior period retained earnings. See Note 7 Leases for more information on the Company's leasing arrangements.

In August 2018, the FASB issued ASU 2018-15, Intangibles - Goodwill and Other - Internal-Use Software (Subtopic 350-40): Customer's Accounting for Implementation Costs Incurred in a Cloud Computing Arrangement That Is a Service Contract ("ASU 2018-15"). The Company adopted ASU 2018-15 effective January 1, 2019 using the prospective method of adoption. ASU 2018-15 requires a customer in a cloud computing arrangement that is a service contract to follow the internal-use software guidance in Accounting Standards Codification ("ASC") 350-40 to determine which implementation costs to defer and recognize as an asset. ASU 2018-15 will impact amounts capitalized into other assets on the balance sheet.

In June 2016, the FASB issued ASU 2016-13, Financial Instruments - Credit Losses (Topic 326): Measurement of Credit Losses on Financial Instruments ("ASU 2016-13"). ASU 2016-13 replaces the existing incurred loss impairment model with an expected loss model which requires the use of forward-looking information to calculate credit loss estimates. The change will result in earlier recognition of credit losses. The Company will adopt ASU 2016-13 effective January 1, 2020 utilizing a modified retrospective transition method. The Company does not expect a material impact to its consolidated financial statements, including accounting policies and processes.
