The amount of policy acquisition costs amortized and included in policy acquisition and other underwriting expenses for the years ended December 31, 2022, 2021 and 2020 was $100,669, $86,963 and $49,125, respectively.

As described in Note 1 -- “Nature of Operations” with regards to the quota share reinsurance agreements, the Company derecognized $1,349 of direct costs attributable to the assumption of insurance policies from United for the year ended December 31, 2022. The Company incurred $34,491 and $15,557, respectively, of direct costs attributable to the assumption of insurance policies from United for the years ended December 31, 2021 and 2020.
