Customer-Funded Research & Development Customer-funded R&D costs are incurred pursuant to contracts (revenue arrangements) to perform R&D activities according to customer specifications. These costs are direct contract costs and are expensed to cost of sales when the corresponding revenue is recognized, which is generally as the R&D services are performed. Revenue from customer-funded R&D was approximately $13,873,000 and $20,108,000 for the three and six months ended October 28, 2017, respectively. Revenue from customer-funded R&D was approximately $14,541,000 and $29,278,000 for the three and six months ended October 29, 2016, respectively.
