Segment and Geographical Information
Operating segments are defined as components of an enterprise for which separate financial information is available and evaluated regularly by the chief operating decision maker, or decision-making group, in deciding how to allocate resources and in assessing performance. The Company has one operating and one reportable business segment.
During the three and nine months ended September 30, 2013 and 2012, the Company operated in two geographic regions, the U.S. and International, which consists of locations outside of the U.S. In the International geographic region, sales in Japan for the three and nine months ended September 30, 2013 totaled $7.3 million and $20.8 million, respectively, which in each case represented greater than 10 percent of the Company’s consolidated revenues for their respective periods. For the three and nine months ended September 30, 2012, sales in Japan totaled $7.5 million and $21.0 million, respectively, which in each case represented greater than 10 percent of the Company’s consolidated revenues for their respective periods.
