We recognize lower of cost or net realizable value adjustments when the carrying value of our inventories exceeds their estimated market value. These non-cash charges are a component of purchases and related costs in the condensed consolidated statements of operations. We recognized $6 million of lower of cost or net realizable value adjustments for the nine months ended September 30, 2020 and $8 million of lower of cost or net realizable value adjustments during the nine months ended September 30, 2019.
