Description of Business	Description of Business Brookdale Senior Living Inc. ("Brookdale" or the "Company") is an operator of senior living communities throughout the United States. The Company is committed to providing senior living solutions primarily within properties that are designed, purpose-built and operated to provide quality service, care and living accommodations for residents. The Company operates and manages independent living, assisted living, memory care and continuing care retirement communities ("CCRCs"). The Company also offers a range of home health, hospice, and outpatient therapy services to residents of many of its communities and to seniors living outside of its communities. The Company has five reportable segments: Independent Living; Assisted Living and Memory Care; CCRCs; Health Care Services; and Management Services. In prior periods, the Company referred to the Independent Living segment as the Retirement Centers segment, the Assisted Living and Memory Care segment as the Assisted Living segment, and the Health Care Services segment as the Brookdale Ancillary Services segment. The name changes had no effect on the underlying methodology related to, or results of operations of, the segments.
