6.WEIGHTED AVERAGE COMMON SHARES

Basic and diluted earnings or loss per share (“EPS”) is based upon the weighted average number of common shares outstanding during the period. Diluted weighted average number of common shares outstanding also includes common stock equivalents such as stock options and restricted shares. The Company does not include the anti-dilutive effect of common stock equivalents in the calculation of dilutive common shares outstanding. The computation of diluted common shares for the three months ended April 1, 2017 excluded 1,239,131 stock options and 294,907 shares of restricted stock outstanding. The computation of diluted common shares for the three months ended April 2, 2016 excluded 1,265,844 stock options and 132,806 shares of restricted stock outstanding.
