Intangible Assets

Intangible assets are stated at their original cost less accumulated amortization, and principally consist of acquired patents, technology, customer relationships and contracts, and trademarks. Intangible assets subject to amortization consisted of the following (in thousands):

There were no purchases of intangible assets during the second quarter of fiscal 2024 and during the second quarter of fiscal 2023, or during the fiscal year-to-date periods ended March 29, 2024 and March 31, 2023, respectively.

Amortization expense for our intangible assets is included in cost of licensing, cost of products and services, R&D, S&M, and G&A expenses in our unaudited interim condensed consolidated statements of operations. Amortization expense was $7.4 million and $7.0 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2024 and 2023, respectively, and $15.0 million and $13.3 million in the fiscal year-to-date periods ended March 29, 2024 and March 31, 2023, respectively.
