On July 18, 2013, the Company recorded the fair value of the in-process research and development of $6.0 million related to the acquisition of YFind. In-process research and development was accounted for as an indefinite-lived intangible asset, until its completion on May 1, 2014. Following its completion, it was transferred to purchased technology and is being amortized over its estimated useful life of four years.
Amortization expense related to the purchased technology was $2.3 million, $1.3 million and $1.3 million for the years ended December 31, 2014, 2013 and 2012, respectively. Amortization expense is included as a component of cost of revenue in the accompanying consolidated statements of operations.
