The Partnership recorded depletion expense on natural gas and oil properties of $395,600 and $1,006,200 for the years ended December 31, 2012 and 2011, respectively. Upon the sale or retirement of a complete or partial unit of a proved property, the cost is eliminated from the property accounts, and the resultant gain or loss is reclassified to accumulated depletion. Upon the sale of an entire interest where the property had been assessed for impairment, a gain or loss is recognized in the statements of operations.

During the year ended December 31, 2011, the Partnership recognized $3,834,900 of asset impairment, respectively, related to oil and gas properties on its balance sheets. This impairment related to the carrying amount of these oil and gas properties being in excess of the Partnership's estimate of their fair value at December 31, 2011. The estimate of fair value of these oil and gas properties was impacted by, among other factors, the deterioration of natural gas prices at the date of measurement. The Partnership recognized no asset impairment in 2012.
