Factors Affecting Performance [Text Block]

What drove fund performance during the past 12 months?

  • Global stock indexes and global fixed income markets were broadly positive in 2025. After a challenging start to the year, the U.S. and China made efforts to improve their trade relationship, corporate earnings remained favorable, and investors favored artificial intelligence-related businesses and other high-growth companies. Several major central banks resumed cutting interest rates over the year, as well, with the notable exception of the Bank of Japan, which raised interest rates at the end of the year as was widely expected.

  • Compared with the S&P Target Date 2020 Index, the fund’s higher total equity exposure in its glide path contributed to results for the period. Additionally, the fund’s U.S. small-cap equity profile, which is more style diverse than the benchmark series’ core-only allocation, also had a positive impact.

  • On the negative side, security selection detracted overall, led by unfavorable selection among U.S. large-cap core and value equities. A structural overweight allocation to U.S. equities versus international equities also weighed as U.S. equities underperformed international equities over the year.

  • The fund seeks to provide monthly income. The fund pursues its objectives by investing in a diversified portfolio of other T. Rowe Price stock and bond mutual funds that represent various asset classes and sectors. The fund’s allocation among T. Rowe Price mutual funds will change over time in relation to its target retirement date.
