AÉROPOSTALE REPORTS AUGUST SALES RESULTS
New York, New York — September 6, 2007 — Aéropostale, Inc. (NYSE: ARO), a mall-based specialty retailer of casual and active apparel for young women and men, today announced that total net sales for the four-week period ended September 1, 2007 increased 5.7% to $168.2 million, from $159.1 million for the four-week period ended August 26, 2006. Same store sales for the month increased 1.7%, compared to the corresponding four-week period ended September 2, 2006.
Year-to-date, total net sales increased 11.1% to $755.2 million, from $680.1 million in the year-ago period. Year-to-date, same store sales decreased 0.5%, compared to the corresponding period ended September 2, 2006.
Julian R. Geiger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said, “We are pleased that we experienced an overall improvement in our business in August from July and we remain focused on executing our strategies for the remainder of the back to school selling season. Our promotional cadence and inventory levels remain well controlled, and our gross margins continue to track ahead of last year.”
The Company believes that the disclosure of sales on a pro-forma basis due to the 53rd week in fiscal 2006, which is a non-GAAP financial measure, provides investors useful information to help them better understand the company’s expected results.
