AEROPOSTALE REPORTS AUGUST SALES RESULTS
New York, New York — August 31, 2006 - Aeropostale, Inc. (NYSE: ARO), a mall-based specialty retailer of casual and active apparel for young women and men, today announced that total net sales for the four-week period ended August 26, 2006 increased 16.6% to $159.1 million, compared to $136.5 million for the four-week period ended August 27, 2005. The company’s comparable store sales increased 3.3% for the month, versus a comparable store sales increase of 1.3% in the year ago period.
Fiscal year to date, total net sales have increased 17.1% to $680.1 million, compared to $581.0 million in the year-ago period. Fiscal year to date, comparable store sales increased 0.1%, versus a comparable store sales increase of 1.0% in the year-ago period.
Julian R. Geiger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said, “We are pleased with our August results and with the consistent momentum we maintained throughout the month. During the month, we effectively executed our promotional and merchandising plans. As a result, we were able to make gains in both our merchandise margins and average unit retails. We are encouraged by the reaction to our merchandise assortment and the momentum in our business as we head into the end of the back to school selling season.”
