8. Income Taxes

The effective income tax rates were 23.2% and 23.0% for the three and six months ended June 30, 2022, respectively. The effective income tax rates were 23.5% and 23.6% for the three and six months ended June 30, 2021, respectively. These rates differed from the U.S. statutory rate primarily due to state income taxes and certain expenses that are not deductible for tax purposes. For interim accounting purposes, we recognize income taxes using an estimated annual effective tax rate.
