Explanatory Note

This Post-Effective Amendment No. 472 to the Registrant’s Registration Statement on Form N-1A is being filed pursuant to paragraph (b)(1)(iii) of Rule 485 of the Securities Act of 1933, as amended (the “1933 Act”), solely for the purpose of delaying, until September 24, 2010, the effectiveness of the registration statement for the iShares MSCI Philippines Investable Market Index Fund (the “Fund”), filed in Post-Effective Amendment No. 377 on February 1, 2010, pursuant to paragraph (a) of Rule 485 of the 1933 Act. The effectiveness of the Registration Statement of the Fund was delayed in Post-Effective Amendment No. 413 on April 16, 2010, in Post-Effective Amendment No. 431 on May 12, 2010, in Post-Effective Amendment No. 438 on May 28, 2010, in Post-Effective Amendment No. 443 on June 24, 2010, in Post-Eff ective Amendment No. 458 on July 22, 2010, and in Post-Effective Amendment No 464 on August 19, 2010, each pursuant to paragraph (b)(1)(iii) of Rule 485 of the 1933 Act.

This Post-Effective Amendment No. 472 incorporates by reference the information contained in Parts A, B and C of Post-Effective Amendment No. 377.
