(NYSE: MET) today announced that its board of directors has authorized an additional $1 billion common stock repurchase program. This program will begin after the completion of an earlier $1 billion repurchase program that was announced on February 28, 2007, of which approximately $240 million currently remains. The stock repurchases can be made through purchases from the MetLife Policyholder Trust, in the open market and through privately negotiated transactions.
