Per Common Share

Basic and diluted loss per common share is determined in accordance with the applicable provisions of U.S. GAAP. Basic loss per common share is computed using the weighted average number of shares of common stock outstanding for the period. Diluted loss per common share is equivalent to basic loss per common share, as U.S. GAAP provides that a loss cannot be diluted by potential common stock, which includes the potential exercise of stock options under our share based employee compensation plans and vesting of our restricted stock/restricted stock units.

For the years ended December 31, 2017 and 2016, options to purchase common stock, unvested restricted stock units and warrants estimated to be 7.2 million and 4.4 million shares, respectively, were excluded from the computation of diluted income per common share as their effect would be anti-dilutive. The significant increase compared to the prior period is primarily due to the issuance of a warrant to purchase an aggregate of 1.5 million shares in connection with the New Credit Agreement. These shares could dilute earnings per common share in the future.
