Item 8.01 Other Events.

On May 14, 2008, The United Illuminating Company, a subsidiary of UIL Holdings Corporation (the Registrant), filed a request with Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control to reopen its Distribution Rate Case (Docket No. 05-06-04, final decision dated January 27, 2006, as supplemented by the August 21, 2006 final decision in Docket No. 05-06-04RE01).  A copy of this filing is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.
