Restructuring Charges [Abstract]
Restructuring Charges record restructuring charges associated with management-approved restructuring plans to reorganize or to remove duplicative headcount and infrastructure within our businesses. Restructuring charges include severance costs to eliminate a specified number of employees, infrastructure charges to vacate facilities and consolidate operations, contract cancellation costs and other related activities. The timing of associated cash payments is dependent upon the type of restructuring charge and can extend over a multi-year period. Restructuring charges are not included in our calculation of segment profit (loss), as more fully explained in Note 3.We recorded $1.8 million of restructuring charges in 2021 from actions initiated in prior years. Cost were primarily related severance and related expenses. Due to the economic impact of COVID-19 on our business, we implemented several cost reduction actions in the second quarter of 2020. We recorded $10.8 million of restructuring charges for the year ended December 31, 2020 primarily related to these actions, which consisted of employee terminations for positions that were no longer needed to support the business, selective facility closures, and cancellations of certain sales and marketing activities. We recorded $10.3 million of restructuring charges for the year ended December 31, 2019. There is not expected to be a material amount of costs expected to be incurred from existing restructuring actions in future periods. Restructuring accruals are included in Accrued expenses in the accompanying Consolidated Balance Sheets.
