EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Post-Effective Amendment No. 219 to the Registrant's Registration Statement on Form N-1A is being filed pursuant to Rule 485(b)(1)(iii) under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended (the "1933 Act"), for the sole purpose of delaying the effectiveness of Post-Effective Amendment No. 212 to the Registrant's Registration Statement on Form N-1A (the "Amendment"), which was filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on March 1, 2017 pursuant to Rule 485(a) under the 1933 Act, relating solely to the Nationwide Long/Short Fund.  Accordingly, the Parts A, B and C, as filed in the Amendment, are incorporated herein by reference in their entirety into this filing.
