Disclosure of Transfer of Securitizations or Asset-Backed Financing Financial Assets Accounted for as Sale [Abstract]
Variable Interest Entities Variable Interest Entities    We have no consolidated VIEs as of June 30, 2022 and December 31, 2021.    In connection with our non-qualified mortgage securitization activities, we have retained a five percent interest in the investment securities of certain trusts ("other MBS") and are contracted as the servicer of the underlying loans, compensated based on market rates, which constitutes a continuing involvement in these trusts. Although we have a variable interest in these securitization trusts, we are not their primary beneficiary due to the relative size of our investment in comparison to the total amount of securities issued by the VIE and our inability to direct activities that most significantly impact the VIE’s economic performance. As a result, we have not consolidated the assets and liabilities of the VIE in our Consolidated Statements of Financial Condition. The Bank’s maximum exposure to loss is limited to our five percent retained interest in the investment securities that had a fair value of $225 million as of June 30, 2022 as well as the standard representations and warranties made in conjunction with the loan transfers. See Note 2 - Investment Securities and Note 16 - Fair Value Measurements, for additional information.
