5. Intangible Assets

Intangible assets are related to certain capitalized milestone and sublicense payments. The following table presents intangible assets (in thousands):

We recorded $3.8 million and $8.5 million as cost of sales – amortization of intangible assets for the three and nine months ended September 30, 2018, respectively. See Note 7.
