Mr. Gellert has been an investment banker and entrepreneur for the past 20 years, having worked for global financial institutions, founded a boutique investment banking firm and run a variety of small companies in technology industries. He has experienced the influence and weaknesses of the large agencies first hand as a debt capital markets officer and is highly motivated to now run an alternative ratings company that addresses many of the problems inherent in the traditional ratings market paradigm.
In February 2007, Mr. Gellert led the team that, through the vehicle, Rapid Ratings International, acquired Rapid Ratings Pty. Ltd. from an Australian corporate owner. After moving the business to New York, Mr. Gellert became President and CEO of Rapid Ratings. The acquisition team included Dr. Patrick J. Caragata, Founder and Executive Vice Chairman of Rapid Ratings and Mr. Gellert's long-time business partner, Douglas M. Cameron, now Rapid Ratings' Chief Operating Officer.
During the last six years, Mr. Gellert has also been the Managing Partner of Howland Partners, LLC and in late 2006 purchased a broker/dealer renamed Howland Securities LLC (member FINRA/SIPC), of which he is Managing Partner. The Howland firms' activities include consulting, business development, capital raising and M&A advisory to companies in the Financial Information Services markets including Independent Research, Portfolio Analytics Tools and Financial Technologies businesses.
Prior to the Howland businesses and Rapid Ratings, Mr Gellert had positions as CEO of a number of technology companies including wireless software and research companies, SkyScout and Unstrung.
As a Debt Capital Markets officer, Mr. Gellert most recently worked for Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown, where he was Head of the Yankee Origination Group. In this capacity, Mr. Gellert was responsible for representing Deutsche's corporate, financial institution and sovereign clients from Europe, Asia and Australia/New Zealand and for arranging their financings in the Global, SEC registered, 144A and traditional private placement markets.
Prior to his four years at Deutsche Bank, Mr. Gellert was a member of the Yankee Origination and Private Placement Groups at UBS Securities and Barclays de Zoete Wedd (now Barclays Capital).
Mr. Gellert is a frequent interviewee in print and television media.
Mr. Gellert is a member of various corporate boards and corporate advisory boards and is also active in the non-profit and educational worlds, including as a National Board member of Young Audiences/Arts for Learning Inc, the nation's leading source of arts-in-education services. Mr. Gellert has his Series 24, 7 and 63 qualifications.
