Perhaps in an era when technology did not allow broad and immediate disclosure of information, selective disclosure to agents who could effectively distribute information into the marketplace made sense. It is currently an anachronism that creates an assymetry of information yielding economic advantage to those on the right side of it, without any compensating benefit to the market as a whole to justify its continued tolerance. This artificial wall needs to be torn down. What arguments are there for the continuation of selective disclosure???
