I am writing this email as a PROPONENT of the new proposal in regards to mutual funds and variable products. I think it is a wise and just decision to require brokers and their reps to provide one-page disclosure forms detailing the fees, expenses and other costs of purchasing mutual funds and variable products. I have worked with many clients who have been “duped” into some products by savvy salesmen. They have no idea the costs that are associated with these variable products. I understand that a prospectus has to be provided, but those are quite intimidating for some clients. “Here Mr. Client, please read this 70 page document detailing the in’s and out’s of this product.” I don’t know of a client yet who actually takes the time to read them, and even worse, I know some financial planners who actually state, “Here is a prospectus, but no real need to read it!” It is time for the consumers to be protected in this area. I advocate GREATLY for this new proposal. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you for your time!
