The U.S. Department of State is preparing to release its strategy on recommendations to address the linkages between the illicit minerals trade and human rights abuses in Congo on January 17. The State Department has elicited input from multiple stakeholders, including the Enough Project, as well as a number of private sector corporate representatives. It is critical that the strategy provide actionable recommendations for increased U.S. engagement in regional and international conflict minerals certification as a means towards security sector reform and military justice in eastern Congo.
