Subject: SHORT SALES

Gentlemen:

Although restoration of the uptick rule might lessen some of the shock, I think more is needed. In my opinion, short sales should be an integrated transaction. I.e., the short seller must post the stock that is borrowed for the sale at the time the short position is taken by an investor. At the very minimum, the use of “naked shorting” must be banned. Without some initiative regarding short sales, any attempt to invest using due diligence is as useless as 3-dollar bill. Edward B. Weisel, Rockville, MD
