There have been enough arguments against naked short selling. Hopefully, the SEC will do the right thing by removing all the exceptions for naked short selling.
I will continue to make a forecast, as I have been warning since July 2007, that if the uptick rule is not reinstated and the naked short selling ban is not enforced, individual stocks will crash in the face of decent fundamentals. Wealth destruction will be rampant and investors will lose confidence. Investors will distrust the stock market, and hence, capital formation will suffer.
The sufferings of investors, a weak economy, a loss of millions of jobs will be the burden of the SEC to bear alone, as it is a result of the SEC's inaction on the issues of naked short selling and uptick rule.
