I am the managing partner in Columbus, OH overseeing 60 financial professionals. Althogh I agree in the marketing aspect of the 12b-1 fees, I feel that opening them up to a bidding war will cripple the average investor. Already, small accounts cost advisors more money servicing than the get from the current structure. Allowing these rates to be slashed will change the business model for many organizations. Professionals will be coached to not work with accounts under a certain size. Those that do market in this area will be untrained, uncredentialed, and understaffed individuals who will ultimately do more harm than good.
Please rethink this policy and not jeapordize the very people you wish to protect.
