To Whom It May Concern:

I am an independent financial advisor and FPA member. In my three years in business I have seen multiple cases of clients that were sold unsuitable equity indexed annuities. They had no idea what they were being sold although the sales pitch made it seem like they had nothing to lose. It seems obvious that any insurance product whose underlying value is based on the value of an equity (or equities) must be regulated by the SEC. One wouldn’t expect a financial advisor to be allowed to sell insurance products without being regulated by the insurance commission, similarly there is no reason why financial products should be given a free pass by the financial regulatory authorities. Without regulations the insurance industry will be allowed to rum amok and the uneducated client will be the one that suffers. I urge you to product the common citizen by regulating all financial products, no matter who sells them.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Hartman
