I believe very strongly that some form of short selling restrictions such as the uptick rule needs to be in place to prevent the destruction of value in a company or group of companies by large institutional short sellers whose only desire is to make a quick buck. It is quite obvious to me that a large percentage of the decline in the market recently was from this type of unregulated trading.
