I am an individual investor and am relying on my stock market investments to provide substantially for my retirement. I believe that short selling in the recent bear market was a significant factor in driving stock prices down as fast as they did. Markets exist as a vehicle for companies to raise capital, not as a playground for large money interests to force stock prices lower through unrestricted shorting. I support reinstatement of the permanent market uptick rule. Investors could still short stocks, but not manipulate the market in so doing.
