We should restore the uptick rule. The purpose of a stock market is to allow public companies a way to raise capital. The only real purpose to day trading is to insure liquidity. We are now in a position where trading has become a huge business in and of itself. This means the tail is wagging the dog. Reducing volatility will improve stability and investor confidence even if it reduces trade volume and hence broker commissions.
