I would like to suggest that now is the time for the SEC to consider reinstating the uptick rule.
This was a rule that was in place since 1938 until it was removed by the SEC in July 2007.
This rule was in place to prevent predatory shorting and manipulation of stock prices and worked well to limit the market while it was in place.
We have clearly seen what the results have been since its removal.
