I am certainly in favor of restoring the uptick rule. For a free market to function properly, there should be restrictions making it difficult for certain entities, e.g. hedge funds, to control the market while allowing the ordinary investor to participate in the stock market with full confidence. Especially after seeing the banking industry driven into the ground in the fall of 2008 due in part to short selling.
