If we are to restore confidence in the US stock markets the uptick rule must be reinstated. If we truly, as a nation, desire that people invest part of their annual income in 401ks, 403bs and IRAs for retirement the market must be an investor friendly environment that is policed by an effective organization (SEC) which enforces a set of rules and regulations with great diligence. The SEC in the past several years has been lax in its enforcement and has relaxed rules that could have probably prevented the current economic condition of the USA. The new administration must properly fund the SEC and ensure a well regulated market. If it fails the market may be doomed to failure. That would be a tragedy for this great country and for the current administration.
