Dear Securities and Exchange Commission Members:
I write to urge the SEC to pass a rule that would require publicly traded corporations to disclose publicly all of their political spending.
If American democracy is to survive, openness with respect to where and to whom this sort of money is going must be public information, accessible to shareholders and the public. We need to be aware of how much each corporation spends on politics, and which candidates it is supporting or attacking. These disclosures should be posted on the SEC’s web site.
