I have been in the Financial Services business for five years. I work for a highly responsible faith-based company. I have an employee and complete 3 different tax forms quarterly. I hold an insurance and a securities license. To maintain those licenses, I pay a fee and attend continuing education classes. I am inspected by my corporate compliance officer annually and have been through a State inspection once in the last five years. Every transaction I do with a client goes through rigorous suitability analysis by our corporate office. I take the time to meet with my clients, determine their risk tolerance and needs and offer them products that will satisfy both.
The problems our industry has experienced in the last few years were not caused by people like me. They were due to unscrupulous people breaking existing laws. New laws will not help this. They will only make it harder and harder for scrupulous people like me to make a living.
