While I appreciate your efforts and reasons to look for more protection to the general public, this potentially newly imposed legal fiduciary standard on the broker-dealers and registered reps will not accomplish what you hope. Another layer of compliance with all the associated costs and time will drive more out of the business and consumers will eventually be served to a lesser standard.
The suitability standard is effective, and I hope you will allow it to be the guiding force.
