The suitability standard governing broker-dealers and registered representatives is a robust and heavily enforced standard. There are sufficent regulations in place. If the SEC enforced the regulations already on the books, the mess experienced over the last many years would not have happened. You are using false-populism to create the appearance of action by attempting to 'punish' people who had nothing to do with your problems.

Tell me how another set of rules and regulations would stop Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns, Bernard Madoff, Goldman Sachs, et al. Law-abiding, honest professionals should'be be handcuffed because you and the above criminals failed to fulfill your responsibility.
