IEXs applied to become a fully licensed U.S. securities exchange with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) on Aug 21st, 2015. I understand that the major Exchanges, high frequency trading firms and their lobbyists have been very opposed to IEX becoming an Exchange and have filed highly charged public comment letters asking the SEC to decline the application.

Do not be swayed by the major Exchanges and their lobbyists. To the contrary, this is an opportunity for the SEC to make a statement concerning protection of long term investors over short term scammers.

I believe that is in the common good for the SEC to approve IEXs application to become an Exchange with a protected quotation.

Personally, I may use the IEX router to eliminate the possibility of having my orders negatively impacted by certain speed-enabled trading strategies (aka latency arbitrage).
