Explanation of Responses:

1. Represents the receipt of shares of common stock for no consideration upon the vesting of restricted stock units under the Stillwater Mining Company 2012 Equity Incentive Plan due to the satisfaction of performance criteria. These shares were previously incorrectly reported as being owned by the Reporting Person on January 21, 2015.

2. The Reporting Person previously incorrectly reported the ownership of 13,252 shares of common stock that were issuable upon the vesting of restricted stock units under the Stillwater Mining Company 2012 Equity Incentive Plan upon the satisfaction of performance criteria, 4,706 of which were subject to restricted stock units that vested on December 31, 2016 and 8,546 of which remain subject to restricted stock units that have not yet vested.
